ETHNIC GROUPS IN IRAN ARE IN ACTION:
NEXT TARGET IS LORESTAN
After the ethnic problems in Khuzestan, Baluchestan and
Southern Azerbaijan, the Lorestan Province which is one of
the most ancient settlements of Iran has also got into
action.
It is informed that a derisive and dissolute cartoon about
the traditional woman costumes of Bakhtiyaris, the largest
arm of Lor nation, was published in “Keyhan” and “Dokhtaran”
journals. It is also stated that the cartoon has caused an
actual irritation among Lors. As far as one can tell,
traditional Lor costumes are put on in the tribal areas
while a common Iranian style is being used in most of the
cities where the Lor people live. It is a fact that recent
arguments and conflicts have been come out only as a result
of this cartoon. Therefore, the Iranian authorities have a
fear that a movement would be triggered in Lorestan.
A group of 400 Lor originated people demanding more freedom
held a demonstration in the capital city of the
LorestanProvince, Khorramabad, in July. Since the security
forces formed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and
the Basij Forces severely intervened to the abovementioned
demonstration a Lor youth and an IRGC soldier were killed.
Lor people ask for education in their mother tongue and the
right to be able to become senior bureaucrats.
Most of the population of the LorestanProvince which
includes the Zagros Mountains in the East of Iran, is Lor
originated and a number of Lor people also live in Khuzestan.
The history of the Lor nation goes back to 4000 BC.
