 ARMENIANS IN IRAN ARE PREPARING FOR APRIL 24

 

              It was informed that within the framework of the decision taken by the Iranian Leadership, the Armenian schools in the country will be closed on April 24, 2007 and the Armenian officers will also be on leave at the same date. Meanwhile, it is stated that Armenians are planning to carry out a more active campaign in order to make the so-called genocide recognize in 2007.

              In addition to the decision taken as a result of the initiatives of the Dashnak Armenians, the Armenians that will be involved in the activities in the mentioned day will be taken from their houses in Tehran / Majidiyeh, Shahid Sani, Rebat Qarim, Khadjeh Nezamolmolk and Vila streets and brought to the Tehran Saint Serkis Church by the busses allocated by the State. It is expected that the Armenians will make a demonstration after the rite that will be held in the aforementioned church. Besides, it is stated that the Esfahan Vank Church will also organize a rite. 

              The Armenians who mostly live in Tehran and Esfahan and were given all their cultural and social rights are represented at the parliament with two deputies. There are also four Armenian political parties carrying out their activities in Iran. In Iran where Armenians have the right to read and write in their mother tongue, there are two Armenian Language and Literature Departments in both Esfahan and Tehran Universities. On the other hand, it is stated that the Armenian students are regularly brought to the Ararat Sports Hall in Tehran and taken oath on the Armenian flag and the Great Armenian map every month.

              535 thousand dollars out of 2 million dollar aid shared out for the social, cultural and educational development of the minorities was allocated for the Armenian community through a decision taken by the Iranian Parliament last year.
