REACTIONS AGAINST AHMADINEJAD ARE GROWING

The criticism against the President
Ahmadinejad and its policy has reportedly grown in both the
reformist and conservative circles and he is increasingly
losing the public support. Since February 2005 when he came
to power, Ahmadinejad has appointed the young and
inexperienced persons from the Revolutionary Guards Corps
and Basij Forces to the administrative positions and he is
under criticism of all circles in the country due to the
reasons such as the increased inflation and slow-progressing
privatization. The sanctions applied against Iran due to its
carrying on with its nuclear program cause the criticisms to
grow.
According to the news reports in the AFP
agency, Grand Ayatollah Ali Montazari used the following
remarks in a meeting he had with the liberal oppositionists;
One should act intelligently vis-à-vis the enemy, should not
provoke it. Extremities do not serve the interests of the
public. It is every day said that this is our right. OK, it
is your right. Yet we can obtain a right without causing any
trouble and without enabling others to get the opportunity
to pressurize our country.
On the other hand, it is reported in some
press organs that the Islamic Revolutionist Mujahedin
Organization that is described as “a small radical reformist
political party” advocates that Iran’s persistence in the
production of nuclear energy jeopardizes the national
security, national interest of the country and the future of
the Iranian public and requests the Iranian officials to
change their slogan and to agree to the resolutions of the
UN before another draft resolution is raised against Iran.
In the editor’s article published on 13th
January in Aftabe Yazd Newspaper, it is stated that the
Ninth Government which came to power with the slogan of “a
cabinet of 70 million” has not been loyal to the slogan
which it chanted, the country’s administration has taken
every opportunity to direct accusations against some persons
who have a significant background within the revolution and
regime, the Government has to attach importance to unity for
the purpose of progress and development of country instead
of trying to lay the blame on others.
In an article carried in the Kayhan
International Newspaper of 18 January the following remarks
came to the fore: Today when the Ninth Government is about
to finish the second year of its term, the public wants to
see the signs for the improvement of the situation. However,
what is experienced is not in harmony with what is expected.
High cost of living upsets the public. In this case what is
expected from the officials, even if they do not take a step
for the improvement of the state, they should admit the
increase in prices. The government should know that the
public has not established any ties of friendship with any
government and it always judges the conduct of the
government. The USA has tried to form an international front
against Iran for the last 28 years but it has failed.
Unfortunately, the ninth Government ensured the USA to
achieve its target within 1.5 years. Isn’t it high time to
return to Rafsanjani’s approach today in foreign policy and
particularly in the nuclear issue?
The former Deputy President Muhammad Ali
Abtahi who made a statement to the Mehr News Agency said
that the high prices have nothing to do with the former
Government’s practices, that the main reason of the
inflation is Ahmadinejad Government’s failure to manage the
economic sector.
Meanwhile, in his statement of 10 January
2007 posted in the website “alfabnews.ir” the spokesperson
of the Minority Fraction in the Iranian Parliament and
Ardabil deputy Nureldin Pirmouazzen stated that the
President Ahmedinejad failed to fulfill the promises and the
pledges which he made before he was elected, the deputies
collected signatures among themselves in order to summon him
to the Majlis for his interrogation because he caused two
resolutions against Iran in the United Nations Security
Council, at the moment they have 38 signatures, 72
signatures are needed in accordance with the Constitution.
It is stated that the number of signatures has reached 58
as of the late February.
