WHAT
DOES SEDA-YE URUMIYEH NEWSPAPER WANT TO DO?

We were
stupefied by an article that appeared with the signature of
Mesoud Intizar in the Seda-ye Urumiyeh Newspaper, published
in Urumiyeh, distributed in Southern Azerbaijan and having
been suspended for propagating “Turkey/Panturkism” and
giving place to “articles concerning the problems of
Southern Azerbaijan”, closed down several times, and its
managers detained a number of times.
“Language
is one of the most important values of Azerbaijanis. Several
people lost their lives to protect their languages. The
Azerbaijan National Government recognized the Azerbaijani
language and alphabet officially and issued all legitimate
laws with this alphabet. However, Ataturk, who wanted to
bypass the Ottoman Empire and to alienate people, introduced
the Latin alphabet and carried out changes that Armenians
and Jews wanted to see,” explained great master Mesoud
Intizar, revealing his true aim at the end of his article.
“The ones who advocated the acceptance of this alphabet,
that came into being by means of ridiculous changes made in
Cyrillic and Latin Alphabets, “just to wipe out the name of
Farsi” are foolish and inconsiderate. The changes made in
the Farsi alphabet, being “the genuine one”, aimed at
changing the mother tongue, history and identity. In case we
fail to oppose to the ones who carry this out we will become
rootless and baseless as it is the case in Turkey. Rather
than dealing with all these, we should accept the flag and
the alphabet of the mother tongue in general,” said Intizar.
We would like to ask our brother: “Certain ideas in between
the lines of your article are so similar to the views tried
to be imposed on us, the Southern Azerbaijanis, by the
regime. So, would not it be more appropriate to be published
by Baztab?” But, do not forget… Everyone who reads your
article will see that you are so much pro-regime, as can be
undeniably seen in your proposal that “the North should join
us rather than us, the South with its 40 million population,
joining them…”Is there any difference between you and the
managers of the “Nishabur” association in Tehran that
publishes articles in several newspapers and magazines
indicating “the grammar and vocabulary insufficiency of the
Southern Azerbaijan Turkish and the underdevelopment of the
Azerbaijani culture”?
We would
like to ask another question to Mohammed Reza Hademshems,
the Editor in Chief of Seda-ye Urumiyeh… Mister Hademshems,
“How could you condone the publishing of such an article in
your newspaper, being an individual risking the initiation
of an investigation on yourself “for carrying out activities
against the security of the regime”, giving evidences in the
Urumiyeh State Court just a few days ago?
Dear
members of the board of editors of Seda-ye Urumiyeh
Newspaper; We, as the managers of Our South Azerbaijan
website, believe that the best answer to the article in your
newspaper, despite the intentional policies imposed on the
Southerners that have been left behind in learning and using
their language, history and culture though they constitute
almost half of Iranian population, would be an article
written by writer Mehmet Sadik Naibi. Mehmet Sadik Naibi
stated that “Turkish is a superior language to Farsi”
through his following statements, indicating that “Turkish
has always survived in history and will always survive in
the future”, with his unique “ironic” style:
- Let us
protect Farsi, the 33rd dialect of Arabic… Let us abandon
Turkish, the third most powerful and consistent language in
the world…
- Let us
protect Farsi, spoken by 60 million people… Let us abandon
Turkish, spoken by 360 million people…
- Let us
protect Farsi, with a history of 2500 years… Let us abandon
Turkish, with a history of 7200 years…
- Let us
protect Farsi, with a vocabulary of 4000 basic words… Let us
abandon Turkish, with a vocabulary of 100.000 basic words…
- Let us
protect Farsi, with 60-70 basic prefixes… Let us abandon
Turkish, with 3.500 basic affixes…
- Let us
protect Farsi, with 350 auxiliary prefixes… Let us abandon
Turkish, with 24.000 auxiliary affixes…
- Let us
protect Farsi, with 11 tense structures… Let us abandon
Turkish, with 46 tense structures…
