THE
SWEDISH PARLIAMENT DISCUSSES THE RIGHTS OF SOUTHERN
AZERBAIJANIS
It is
indicated that Atebar Mammadov, head of the Party of
National Freedom of Azerbaijan and the Federation of
Azerbaijani Youth acting in Sweden sent to the Swedish
Parliament a letter about the demands of the Southern
Azerbaijanis at the end of October.
In the
letter in question, the Iranian administration is asked to
allow the Azeri people living in the country to learn their
own history and languages freely, to recognize officially
the Azeri as a minority language and to let the Azeri people
use their own language easily and receive education in their
language. The letter has also set forth the demands that
“the Azeri people found freely the political and social
organizations in the country, they preserve and develop
their culture and civilization and the democratic, civil,
cultural and human rights of the Azeri people are protected”.
It is said
that the letter in question has been dispatched to the
Swedish parliament on October 31 with the support of the
Moderate Party of Sweden in order to be voted without any
changes as a recommendatory decision about Iran .
According
to the draft which will be first discussed in the
Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs and then in the
Swedish Parliament, the Swedish government, UN, EU and other
organizations should work to allow the southern Azerbaijanis
living in Iran to get the right of education, to make the
Azerbaijani language get the status of the official minority
language and be used in the schools, to ensure that the
Azerbaijanis are not banned from establishing political and
cultural organizations.
The member
of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs Hans Linde
has reportedly said that: “the letter has been dispatched to
the Parliament without making any changes and it is expected
to be votes as soon as possible”.
On the
other side, it is said that in the month of December, the
Amnesty International will prepare in Iran a special report
on the national movement of Southern Azerbaijan .
