WILL THE INCIDENTS OF CORRUPTION
COME TO AN END?..
The Chief of Judiciary Ayatollah Sadeque Larijani said that
they will give no opportunity to those who are involved in economic corruption
and those who embezzle the public property to their own or their children’s
ownership. Larijani also stated that a network of economic corruption was found
out operating in a state organization last month. The members of the network
have reportedly caused the state a loss of million dollars through false
official and legal documents.
Following the arrest of some individuals concerning the
case of corruption, the conservative Member of Parliament Elyas Nadaran drew the
attention to the corruption network lead by the 1st Deputy of the President
Mohammad Reza Rahimy and called for a punishment for him. In a meeting held with
a group of university students on May 01, Nadiran stated that “Ahmadinajad
Government is trying to cover up the incidents of corruption.” Rahimy who is
claimed to be the leader of agreat financial corruption network doesn’t admit
the allegations. It didn’t go unnoticed that the Presidential official M.J.
Mohammadzadeh stated that the
prosecutor general wouldn’t take the allegations into consideration. In the
meantime, in the face of the criticisms that Larijani couldn’t investigate the
allegations against Rahimy and take action against senior government officials
who were actually responsible, it was met with reaction that Larijani defended
the judiciary through issuing a statement.
Iranian Board of Ministers took a decision for the
establishment of a special committee to investigate the property assets in the
face of the intensive criticisms. The committee will investigate the situation
of the property assets and income of the senior government officials and their
first level relatives. The committee which will include the ministers of economy,
justice and intelligence as well as 3 jurists and several assistants of the
President will conduct the classification of any kind of information. The
decisions to be taken will cover senior staff of ministries, directors of state
institutions and state companies, governors and mayors. Within this scope, those
employed by the state will declare their real estate and total income between 21
April-21 May annually.
