TWO INTELLIGENCE SERVICES OF THE IRANIAN STATE ARE
IN ARGUMENT
It is reported that the teams of the Iranian Ministry of
Intelligence and the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Unit have engaged in a
conflict.
Available information indicates that the teams of the
Intelligence Ministry carried out a technical search in a seven storey building
in Tehran which is frequented by politicians last month. Several bugs and hidden
cameras were found during the search.
However, a fuss was created after it was determined that
the devices belonged to the Intelligence Unit of the Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Immediately arriving to the scene, the IRGC units blockaded the building. During
the following raid, soldiers and the responsible intelligence team clashed. It
is reported that certain intelligence officers were lightly wounded during the
clash where weapons were also used.
The Tehran Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation
after the incident. However, it is stated that no result should be expected from
the investigation. The reason is that the Interception Unit of the IRGC is
taking direct orders from the Spiritual Leader Ali Khamaney. It is said that the
Interception Unit is subordinate to the Intelligence Unit and this unit’s leader
Hojjatoul Islam Hussein Tayyab is a person trusted by Khamaney. The IRGC’s
Interception Unit is comprised of three sections: intercepting senior officials,
intercepting security forces and intercepting ordinary people.
The interception efforts are classified as criticisms
against the personality of Khamaney and general moral issues. Khamaney is daily
presented a two page report regarding the results of the interception activities.
Khamaney can personally listen to the interesting parts of the recordings.
According to the sources of the Spiritual Leadership and
the Ministry of Intelligence, Khamaney listens to the phone calls made by the
opposition against himself every night before going to bed. For this reason it
was stated that he got the concern that he was not liked by people and could be
toppled anytime. The media even joked that this situation has made Khamaney
angrier, paler and frayed out.
