IS
WESTERN AZERBAIJAN BECOMING
NORTHERN
KURDISTAN?
The
assimilation policy followed by the Shah in Iran is still
continuing. Actually, the Turks, who until recently made up
the most crowded ethnic element in Iran, have now formed a
whole by being connected to Iran’s Persian Nationalist
administrations and other ethnic elements. Unfortunately,
the regime did not appreciate this stance of the Turks in
Iran as much as they deserved. Neither during the Shah’s
period nor after the Islamic Revolution…
Today,
there are efforts to turn various settlements, which are
originally Turkish, into Kurdish settlements, in order to
break up the unity and national integrity of Southern
Azerbaijanis. Southern Azerbaijan is facing a state-run
migration. This organized structure in the Kurdish migration
movement is a product of the Iranian Regimes. Encouraged
also by the administration, Kurdish groups are distributing
maps showing various cities such as Urumiyah, Khoy, Gushchu,
Salmas, Sulduz, Makou, Goshachay and Savoujboulagh as
Kurdish territories, which throughout the Iranian history
have never belonged to Kurds, and are carrying out
activities in favor of Kurdish Nationalism on our
territories.
The
developments taking place indicate the graveness and
seriousness of the situation. The propaganda activities
carried out against us through mass media organs are led by
Urumiyah City Council Member Khadijeh Mansouri. K. Mansouri
“calls ‘Western Azerbaijan’ as ‘Northern Kurdistan’ and goes
too far to claim that the name ‘Western Azerbaijan’ has to
be changed now and the Turks living in Western Azerbaijan,
Ilam and Karmanshah are guests”. Although there have been
complaints to the Iranian administration and judicial organs
on the mentioned individual “for her racist activities and
for breaking the regime laws”, no development has occurred
since then. We expect the Administration to try K.Mansouri
and reveal her backers. The ideological point of view of
Mansouri and the individuals alike, which is far from being
scientific, is the same with that of the PJAK, the Iranian
extension of the PKK. They are using the same terminology.
The above-mentioned elements have recently started to
register the places and historical images symbolizing Turks
as “internet domain names”. In this way, they are trying to
claim our Turkish cities and culture on these internet
pages.
The aim of
these policies is clear. “To undermine the power of Turks”…
To divide the power of the Turkish population of 25-30
million people with the Kurdish population of 3.5-4 million
and to separate it from the surrounding Turkish States…
However, authorities must see that this policy is out of
control and it serves to the enemies of Iran. As a matter of
fact, the PKK terrorists whom Iran supported in the past are
now struggling, within PJAK, against the Iranian security
forces with the support of foreign powers. For this reason,
we need to be careful and alert as the real owners of these
territories.
