THERE IS NO ONE TO BLAME ABOUT THE
AIRCRAFT THAT CRASHED IN IRAN

The trial, which was about the C – 130
type military transport aircraft that had crashed in
December 2005 in Tehran, came to a conclusion within last
July and in that trial it was decided that no one was guilty
about the accident. Meanwhile, the families whose relatives
had died in the accident held a protest demonstration in
front of the court building on August 01. At the
demonstration in which the security forces did not
intervene, the families asked for the punishment of the
individuals whose guilt or negligence had resulted in the
aircraft’s crashing.
In the aircraft in question, there were a
total of 94 individuals, 84 of whom were passengers and 10
were the crew. The aircraft crashed into a ten-
storey-building near Mahrabad and fell down when it took off
in order to go to Bandar Abbas from Tehran. There were no
survivors among the passengers most of whom were the
journalists that had been on the way to the Bandar Abbas
region to watch a military exercise. The number of death
ascended to 119 with the death of 25 individuals that were
in the building at the time of the accident. Following the
accident, some reports in the Iranian press stated that an
interpellation motion against the Minister of Defense had
been submitted by 50 deputies and 158 deputies called for an
investigation in order to eliminate the uncertainties
related with the accident. There existed an opinion among
the public in Iran that the administration was responsible
for the accident.
However, the current situation displays
that no one is responsible for the accident. In just the
same way in which a military aircraft with passengers, all
of whom had been the Revolutionary Guards personnel, fell
down near Kerman and 302 individuals died.
The negatively criticized verdict
demonstrates that the aircraft accidents that have happened
frequently in Iran in the last period arise from the
inefficiency of the aircrafts and the inability to find the
required spare parts and; there is a widespread belief in
the public opinion that the Regime has a tendency to cover
up these kinds of accidents without any adequate
investigation.
