SECRET IRANIAN-US MEETING IS UNVEILED
Allegations suggesting that the President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad Government is engaged in secret meetings with the US so as to
normalize the relations keep the agenda busy in Iran. Within this framework, it
has been learned that Head of the Iranian Presidential Office Esfandiar Rahim-Masha'i
held a meeting with Husheng Amir-Ahmadi, Head of the Iranian-American National
Council who is know to have been the mediator in the normalization of the
Iranian-US relations, in the state of Gilan. It is reported that Masha’i told to
his counterpart during this meeting which was kept from the public opinion that
“compromise will be reached between the US and Iran.” Upon these developments,
Kayhan Newspaper which releases news reports under the government control called
Ahmadinejad “to dismiss Masha’i from his office.”
In response, Masha’i circulated a statement declaring that
“those allegations were fabricated news reports, far from facts” while Ahmadi
stated in the interview he gave to the BBC’s Persian Service that “he paid a
visit to Iran and he assurances for the shipment of uranium out of Iran.”
Meanwhile, that the Friday imams assigned by the Religious Leader focused on
“the relations with the US and Vali-ye Faqih” during the Friday sermons on
November 06 caught attention. However, the Friday Imam of Tehran Ahmed Hatemi
and Friday Imam of Qom Reza Ustadi underlined that “it is out of the question to
establish relations with the US unless the Religious Leader approved.” On the
other hand, the Islamic Student Associations Union, a conservative student
organization established within the universities, issued a statement indicating
that “whoever meets the US officials, his hand will be broken.”
The Washington Post published an article by Thomas Erdbrink
on November 04, 2009 drawing attention to the efforts “to the eagerness of the
White House officials to have meetings with Tehran and their efforts to
establish communication.”
