THE AHMADINEJAD REGIME CLAIMS TO OWN OUR CELEBRATED SHAHRYAR

The famous poet Shahryar from Tabriz, South Azerbaijan’s source of pride, has become a propaganda subject of the regime for the last couple of years. The regime, striving to manipulate the South Azerbaijan community which assumes a considerable potential throughout the country, broadcast through the state-run television channels this year a 26-series documentary on Shahryar  compiled by Iran’s Radio and Television Agency.

The most distinct feature of the documentary that narrates the life of Shahryar , a figure respected by our society and applauded for his literary works, is that he who is our national poet mostly writes in Persian and accentuates his style which is in harmony with the Islamic system.

This practice of the regime was harshly protested by all South Azerbaijanis of the country, particularly of Tabriz. “Despite the apparent emphasize on justice, brotherhood and unity in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the whole thing is just the lip service; it, indeed, is never put into practice. Turkish children who learn Turkish until the age of 7 from their parents are forced to continue their education in Persian when they start school where they are prohibited from speaking in Turkish even at the school garden. All this has one single aim which is to deny South Azerbaijanis their mother tongue.” say the statements of our brothers and sisters who warn that inaccurate information is deliberately disseminated to claim that Turkish poet Shahryar  is indeed of Persian origin and, who describe the Ahmadinejad regime as “fascist”.

Yet this is not the all of it. The weekly Misagh, known to be close to Basij Forces, issued an article criticizing the attitude of the South Azerbaijanis in response to this rightful reaction of our people. The article which highlights that Master Sayyed Mohammad Hussain Shahryar  was one of the national poets of Iran remarks that certain “alienated elements” in the country, in coordination with some anti-Islam press organs in Baku and separatist groups abroad, expressed their irritation on the deliberate broadcast of certain topics after the first part of the documentary on Shahryar  was broadcast on Iranian televisions.

We speak to the Administrators who mark all who advocate mother tongue as “pan-Turkist”, who tuck everyone in jail regardless of legality and who consider even the humanitarian requests as threats. Do hear us:

“We will never give up chanting “Long live our mother tongue…Long live our mother country!”
