BEING WOMAN IN IRAN
In recent period, the Iranian security
forces have increased their controls to detect the moral
faults in the streets. It is stated that many women are
harshly warned because of not getting dressed according to
the Islamic rules and of making up and those raising their
objection are brought to the police stations. It is also
indicated that the patrols conducting such controls in the
cities and named as “Mobaraze ba Mafasade Ajtemaye”
(Struggle with Social Corruption) are renamed as “Amneete
Akhlagh” (Moral Security) with the beginning of new Iranian
year.
The people being unhappy with the
Iranian administration which deals with such moral controls
by disregarding the economic problems think that these
practices aim to satisfy the pro-government conservative
circles and to occupy the public opinion. Moreover, it is
likely that the administration that abstained from producing
clashes between the people and security forces before the
elections would use increasingly its oppressive policies
after its electoral victory.

Recently Reza Zarei, chief of police in
Teheran is unexpectedly dismissed from his position and is
arrested after the claims that he was captured in the month
of April when he was making love with 6 women. The Iranian
authorities did not want to make statement about this issue.
The people consider this incident as “a lesson showing the
moral values of those criticizing them”.
The women in Iran are considered as the
most mistreated part of the society. According the press
reports, the last year almost 1.200.000 women are warned by
the police because of their way of dressing and many of them
are put into the custody and arrested.
Meanwhile, according to the results of
an inquiry conducted in the month of April in Iran by the
“World Public Opinion”, an American think-thank known by its
studies conducted in the Middle Eastern countries, the 78%
of the Iranian people want the women to make use of the same
rights with the men. The 50% of them want the UN to make
more comprehensive steps in order to protect and defend the
women rights and %36 of them think that the state should
take more measures against the pressures put on the women.
